Why Arizona

A traveler's overview

Arizona is the long, slow road. Rim country pines in the north, Sonoran cactus seas in the south, and a state highway grid that connects them with some of the most cinematic driving in America.

Most CurbNTurf hosts here lean into the landscape — quiet ranches outside Sedona, off-grid pads near the North Rim, working farms in the Sulphur Springs Valley. Bring water, bring a topo map, and plan around the heat.

Things to do

Roads, food, and seasons in Arizona

Drive 89A from Flagstaff down through Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona for one of the best descents in the West. Stop in Cottonwood for Verde Valley wine country before climbing back up to Jerome.

Time your trip carefully. April through May and October through November are the sweet spot — winter snow closes the high country and summer afternoons in the low desert routinely break 110 degrees. Tucson and Bisbee are pleasant when the rim is buried.

Pack double the water you think you need, a real paper Arizona Atlas (cell coverage drops fast outside the I-17 corridor), and dark-sky friendly red-bulb headlamps if you want to enjoy why Flagstaff is the world's first International Dark Sky City.
